Philip Bertrand Cullen is an award winning filmmaker from Wexford town in southeast Ireland. He has had a long and fulfilling association with the local music scene down through the years organising music festivals, promoting, managing, recording and producing local singer / songwriters and bands. Then in 2011 he discovered the wonderful creative medium of filmmaking. " ... I always wanted to write stories and down through the years at various points in time I managed to get something down on paper but not to the extent that I wanted. Real life was always the master of time. Making a living and raising a family was a priority... " In recent years Philip found he had a lot of time on his hands so he began to write more frequently and after writing various screenplays he came to a point where he wanted to go a step further. He wanted to bring these stories to life on screen. How would he do this? He had no knowledge of filmmaking. So, he read books on the subject and began to look at films from another perspective. He became more aware of how shots are framed, how scenes are set up, how the lighting is paramount to a scene and how an actors timing is important for a scene to work. In order to achieve what he wanted he had to find like-minded creative people. People who had a degree of knowledge of various aspects of filmmaking, camera, sound, lighting, editing, acting, make-up etc. By the end of 2011 Philip had the crew he wanted and together they started to make short films under the production name Filmwex ( taken from the words ' Film ' and ' Wexford ' ). " ... filmmaking is an ongoing work in progress. It celebrates the coming together of like-minded creative people who all have one goal in common and that is to make the words on a page come to life on screen while all the time trying to improve our skills and knowledge of making the story the best it can be ... ". Since 2011 Philip has written, produced and directed several short films, music videos and feature documentaries. He has ventured into various aspects of filmmaking including screenwriting, editing and green screen filming. He has programmed and organised Short Film Screening Nights of County Wexford filmmakers and he is one of the founder members, programmer and organiser of the Audioshoot Unsigned Music And Film Festival which takes place in Wexford annually.
